Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also called “laughing gas,” is a gaseous medication that you inhale through a mask over your nose. While you may not laugh under this form of sedation dentistry, most patients feel relaxed and drowsy and stay conscious and responsive. Once this dental anesthesia is removed, it wears off quickly, so you can even drive yourself home.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication, which you take before your appointment. Dr. Brian Ferber and our team will provide specific instructions, typically an hour before your visit or upon your arrival at our office. Depending on the medication and your body’s response, you may experience a notable reduction in anxiety or even feel drowsy during the procedure. To ensure your safety, it’s important to have a dependable family member or friend accompany you to and from your sedation dentistry appointment.

IV Sedation

We administer IV sedation through an intravenous line. You will usually remain awake through your procedure, but many of our patients who choose this sedation dentistry option don’t remember their treatment! This is an ideal solution if you have more severe anxiety or need a large series of complex treatments. Because it does have lasting effects, you’ll need someone to drive you home.

General Anesthesia

We’re one of the few dental offices in South Florida to offer general anesthesia for dental work. We may recommend it if your anxiety is severe or you need highly complex treatment. With this, an anesthesiologist administers drugs to render you unconscious. You’ll sleep throughout treatment and wake up in our recovery area. If this is the right solution, you’ll need someone to accompany you to your appointment and drive you home.

Don’t Put Off
the Care You Need

For people worldwide, sedation dentistry is the key to maintaining good oral health. But it isn’t just about keeping your teeth clean, fixing cavities, or installing dental implants. Regular dental care can prevent serious dental issues and systemic conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes complications. Tooth decay can lead to gum disease and recession, the leading cause of tooth loss. Nobody should have to deal with these side effects, so we’re so glad to offer this variety of sedation dentistry options for our most nervous patients.
