Wisdom Teeth in West Palm Beach | What Happens After Extraction?

After extraction of your wisdom teeth in West Palm Beach, you may experience some slight pain and discomfort. Read the following timeline and the accompanying care to get through post-surgery recovery with ease.

The First Day

1-2 Hours – Keep Gauze in for one to two hours after arriving home.4-5 Hours – Ice that is applied outside the cheek over the surgical site will help to minimize swelling. The ice should be applied during waking hours within the first 2 days. After applying it for 20 minutes, have a 20-minute rest. Then, trade out the ice compress for a warm one after 72 hours. Keep in mind that pressure is also just as helpful to reduce swelling. The key is to apply it correctly to the location of the surgical site.First 24 Hours – For the first 24 hours following the procedure, a responsible individual should assist you at home. Additionally, keeping your head elevated for the first two to three days also helps keep swelling and bleeding at a minimum.

The Second Day

After 24 Hours – Rinse gently with warm salt water 8-10 times per day following the first day following surgery. This will help to keep your mouth and the surgical site clean. However, make sure to be careful. Vigorous rinsing can disrupt the surgical site. To mix the salt water, use ½ teaspoon of salt with and 1 cup of water.First 48 Hours – It is normal to have some bleeding for several hours after the surgery and occasional oozing for the first 24 to 48 hours. Also, some swelling is to be expected and usually peaks at about three days after surgery.
